2 Corinthians 5:17New International Version (NIV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!

We are entering into a new year and it is our prayer that God will shift you in a new direction. 2 Corinthians 5: 17 is a powerful verse in our Bible because it reminds us that all of us are not perfect. Each one of us have done something we did not like, or something we knew was wrong (Romans 3: 23). However, despite our shortcoming God still loves us (Romans 5: 8) and He wants to make us new. This verse says that if anyone is in Christ, this means if you put your faith in Jesus, you believe He died, you believe He rose from the grave (Romans 10: 9) the new creation has come and the old is gone. What does it mean that the old is gone?  It means the way you used to live is gone, the way you used to think is gone, and the way you used to talk is gone. Before, you used to curse and yell, but now you show love and patience. Before you used to lie, but now you tell the truth. Before you used to be jealous of others and envy others, but now you are happy when you see others blessed. You are a new creation! The new creation in Christ, lives, thinks, acts, and feels different. Gone with the old, in with the new. It is not your strength that makes it possible for you to live in this new way, rather it is Christ living in you that makes you be the person you were born to be - holy, pleasing, and righteous (Isaiah 61: 10).  Choose Jesus in your life and see the changes the wonderful changes He will make for you this new year!  Happy New Year to you and your family.
