Leave it to God
Do you feel like God is working too slow in your life? Or maybe he’s late? And while you are waiting for God’s plan to unfold in your life, do you have to deal with painful comments or mistreatment from the people around you?
I wonder if this is how David felt like when he was running from King Saul who was overly jealous of his fame and favour from God. Why was Saul jealous of David? Because he’s popularity was growing and he feared that others liked David more than him.
Here’s what interesting. Both men had the same destiny but each one handled their life differently.
Saul made a choice not to trust God, do things his own way, and when he sinned he never repented. Whereas David waited on God, trusted him, and when he made mistakes, he continually went back to God and repented of his sins. Two men, same destiny, but two different outcomes.
The same truth applies to us as well. All of us have an opportunity to do what God calls us to do but we must trust him and in the process leave our situation in God’s hands.
In 1 Samuel 24, David was on the run and he and his men were in a cave. Saul made a stop in that same cave. At this point David’s men encouraged him to kill Saul. They said to David, this is the day that the LORD has delivered him in your hands. David cut Saul's robe and immediately felt conscience stricken.
Why did David feel these emotions? Because he said that Saul was God’s anointed and he should not touch him. David was operating by the Holy Spirit whereas the men were edging him on by the flesh.
While you and I wait for God’s plan to unfold in our life let us remember that we must yield to the Holy Spirit. Let God's Spirit direct and guide us. As much as it was tempting for David to kill Saul and then take his throne and make the promise God had for him - to be the future king - happen quicker and faster this was not of God. But rather of human ambition.
The same with us. We can rush God’s plan. We can rush and get married, have kids, take a job, invest in property, start a new venture, rush the hand of God in whatever we desire that although it is a good idea it’s not GOD’s idea. We must like David be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and leave God’s plan for us happen in his time and way.
David confronted Saul and told him why are you chasing me? He told him I haven’t done anything wrong. Saul realized that he was wrong and apologized to him and declared that David would be king and asked him not to wipe his family line.
Again, David left the destiny of Saul into God’s hands. While David waited on God he made a choice to forgive Saul and move forward with God. In your own life, the people around you will hurt you just like Saul, but can we be like David and leave the pain others have inflicted on us into the hands of God? Can we find in our heart to forgive that person? David said I know God will avenge for me. The same with us. God will take care of those who have hurt us and give us peace.
In essence we must leave everything to God.
We must leave the plans God has for us in his time.
We must leave Gods’ promises to happen in our life his way.
We must leave the people who have hurt us in God’s hands.
We must leave everything to God and trust him completely.
That was the difference between Saul and David. Saul did not wait on God, he went ahead of the LORD, he sinned against God and never humbled himself. Whereas David waited on God, did not push his agenda, sinned but had a spirit of humility. David left things in the hands of God. That is why he was the more successful than Saul and he was described as a man after God’s heart.
Right now you might be exhausted. Like David you are in the cave and you can take life by the reigns and do what you will… but will you be patient like David? Will you trust God’s still small voice? Will you trust him even when there is no movement in your life?
In the end David did become king and everything God declared would happened in his life came true. In the end David had a successful life.
The same will happen for you and for me, we just have to leave it to God.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for this day. Thank you that my life is completely in your hands. I don't have to worry I just have to trust you. You will make a way. You will open doors. You will do what you have promised in my life. I just have to believe and live a good and right life. Give me strength to forgive those who have hurt me and to move forward with you. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
