No, That’s Only in the Movies

Have you ever watched a movie that showed the forces of good working against the forces of evil? If you have watched movies like the Lord of Rings, Narnia, or Star Wars series you will know what I am talking about. But that’s only in the movies, right? There isn’t really an evil force working against us? Actually, there is.

Although we live in a physical world there is a spiritual realm working and operating. It’s invisible but it’s true. In that realm, Satan (a fallen angel) and his helpers (demons/unclean spirits) operate to tempt us. In some cases, they are able to cause people to be blind, mute, deaf, and insane.

We like to downplay these evil forces. If you talk too much about them you are giving them too much attention. If you talk too little about them you dismiss their power. But they are REAL and they are causing damage in the world.

But we don’t have to tap in or follow their power.

In Acts 8, a man named Philip went to Samaria and preached the word of God. People were saved and baptized. He also cast out demons. How did he do so? By the power of the Holy Spirit.

That Spirit that gave Philip power, lives in every believer today. The Holy Spirit guides us, helps us, convicts us of sins, cleanses us, fills us, and reminds us of the words of Jesus. It’s the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. We have access to that power.

By the same token, a man named Simon, who was a sorcerer, was doing amazing work and he had people following him. His work amazed people that they called him Great Power of God. But there was only one problem. He was tapping into magic, evil, and dark powers but was able to do the same miracles as Philip.

Can evil forces do miracles and amazing works? The answer is yes. But we need to be careful because they are false prophets and false people claiming to be the Messiah (Matthew 24:24 and 2 Thess ) “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,” ()2 Thess 2:9).

Today we can tap into that kind of dark power by seeing a psychic, palm reading, fortune tellers, Ouija boards, witchcraft, good luck charms, superstitions, out-of-body experiences, predicting the future, secret order groups, Satanic worship, and or occult movies.

How do you know which power you are following? Go back to the source. How did you see the miracle happen in your life? How are you seeing success? Is it by God’s Holy Spirit or is it by evil, Satan, and demonic work?

Simon the sorcerer saw the power of the Holy Spirit and wanted to buy it. Peter, rebuked him and said you will have no part in what God was doing.

Simon wanted to have God’s power and continue doing sorcery. Unfortunately, that is not how it works. We cannot have a hand in good and a hand in evil. We must follow God and stay clear from all sources which tap into evil power.

This may require a clean-up in our lives. Do a self-check on yourself. Do the things I do, the people I hang out with, the people I follow on social media, or what I allow to enter my mind or see with my eyes – do they enrich my relationship with God or do they support people who practice or follow evil powers?

I know in my personal life I have stopped reading certain books, watching movies, and I intentionally do not follow certain people on social media to keep myself clear of anything or anyone who might open a door to Satan or evil powers.

Satan is clever. He makes us believe that he does not exist and has no impact on us. But the truth is he does exist. He has helpers, called demons, and if we open a door for him to access our lives, he will. But thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit in us who is available to help us make the right decision each day. We just have to give him full control to access our lives.

Are you letting the Holy Spirit have full control in your life? Have you completely surrendered to him and his will? Perhaps that is a decision we can make today by simply praying and allowing him to be King in our life.

Dear God, I repent for dabbling with evil powers. I confess that I have not always made the right decision and I repent those actions to you. I want to let the Holy Spirit have full control in my life and access your power. Every day I desire to do what is right and be right. In Jesus Name. Amen.
